Brew up your support for our hospitals with NHS Big Tea

Sip with us and support the NHS Big Tea between 5-12 July 2023 to celebrate the 75th Birthday of the NHS – an event led by NHS Charities Together.

If this date doesn’t work for you, please hold your Big Tea any time throughout July!

Come together with your friends and family to enjoy a cuppa for #TeamUHD and support our NHS heroes in going above and beyond for their patients at Royal Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole hospitals.

Every cuppa sipped and penny raised helps us continue to raise significant funds to provide enhanced facilities, state-of-the-art equipment and goes towards supporting the wellbeing and development of our staff across the Trust.

2023 Twilight Walk

By Events

Join us on Friday 23 June for our eleventh Twilight Walk

Thousands of women from every part of our community face breast cancer or gynaecological health concerns each year. While we can’t stop cancer, together we can help raise funds to help treat it.

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity is calling everybody across Dorset to get their friends together for a 5K or 10K Twilight walk along Bournemouth Promenade this June. Get ready to walk and shine a light on women’s health as we are aiming to make this event brighter than ever before.

Meeting at Bournemouth Pier Approach from 7.30pm, with the walk commencing at 8pm. People of all ages, abilities and genders can walk or race their way to directly contributing significant funds to women’s health projects across Dorset at the Royal Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch hospitals.

After 10 years of running this much-loved event, we are asking people to walk with us and shine bright to help us raise significant funds towards new equipment for women with ovarian cancer. This year we’re focusing on raising money to adopt Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy for patients with ovarian cancer.

Costing £51,000, this is a relatively new way to administer chemotherapy to patients with advanced ovarian cancer after surgery. It does not replace the intravenous chemotherapy that patients receive, however research shows that by administering heated chemotherapy (42oC) directly to the tissues impacted by cancer after surgery can greatly benefit patients and even improve their overall survival.

This is extremely important because the prognosis for advanced ovarian cancer is usually poor. We are raising funds to do what we can to improve this for every woman in our community.

If you’d like to sign up, please complete the form below.

The theme is ‘Shine bright’ we want you to sparkle and shine like the star you are. We encourage you to think glittery tops, sparkly accessories or even metallic shoes! Or if you prefer something a little more subtle, you can try white clothing or reflective materials that catch the light. Remember, there’s no wrong way to ‘Shine’ at our event. So be creative, have fun, and let your inner star shine bright!

The Just Giving page is now live for people to register yourself as a fundraiser for this event. Your entrance fee only covers the cost of the event, so we do encourage our participants to raise sponsorship too. We suggest that our walkers aim to raise a minimum of £75. If you have any questions or would like any fundraising support, you can call 0300 019 4060.

You can also follow us @UHDCharity on Facebook or Instagram to enjoy the countdown!

Please be aware that any photos and videos taken on the day will be used for publicity purposes.

March for Men

By Events
“Thank you to everybody that joined us for March For Men. Your support will enable us to enhance our services for the treatment of men’s health at University Hospitals Dorset Consultant Urological Surgeons.”

You can view and download the full gallery of images here.

On Saturday 25 March 2023, we saw 231 fantastic supporters join us for March For Men! Whether you chose to walk or run 5k or 10k.

March For Men helps enable the charity to enhance our services for the treatment of men’s health at University Hospitals Dorset. It was a fantastic event with such a fun atmosphere down at Bournemouth Pier Approach with music coming from Hot Radio and everybody getting warmed up for the event.

Consultant Urological Surgeon, Kevin Turner said: ‘With every step our supporters take along the seafront, we can continue to improve health services for every man in our community. March for Men helps us to do so much more for our patients.’

‘We can purchase state of the art equipment to streamline diagnosis and improve treatment. We would not have been able to purchase technology like the blue light camera system to improve bladder cancer treatment without the funds raised from previous March for Men events for example.’

This event was kindly sponsored by Oak Services again this year and supported by Coles Miller.

Stay tuned over the next 6 weeks to find out how much we raised and follow us on FacebookInstagram and Twitter to see the photos and videos taken on the day for March for Men 2023.

Elf Dash

By Events
Thank you to everyone who joined us at Branksome, Dene Chine for our sold out Elf Dash 2022.

A special thank you to Coles Miller who donated an amazing £1,500 and sponsored the event.

After the dash, the Rapid Relief Team provided a lovely hot meal and refreshments for our dashers. There was also an opportunity to meet Father Christmas who gave us an early Christmas present of toy reindeers that were kindly donated by Haskins Garden Centre, Ferndown.

Throughout the event, Mr Pop Balloons was there to provide some excellent balloon art and those at Oak Services supported us with our transport. It was a fun-filled festive day raising money for the UHD Charity projects, which includes the purchase of Christmas presents for patients who will be spending the season in hospital.

Thank you to everyone that attended and was involved to make Elf Dash 2022 so dashing!

Walk for Wards

By Events
Save the date for Walk for Wards
We’re pleased to confirm that Walk for Wards will be taking place on Saturday 14 October 2023 at Upton Country Park.

Last year’s event was cancelled and held virtually instead due to the sad passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and the UK was in an official period of mourning.

While this flagship event of ours was held virtually last year, it will be back at Upton Country Park this year and we are making our mission for it to be better than ever before.

For everybody that signs up, you will get to choose from a 3K, 5K or 10K route while you take in the stunning scenery through the woodlands and along Poole Bay.

Whether you decide to walk in memory of a loved one, for a ward that is close to your heart after undergoing treatment or you simply want to support your local hospitals, why not do it with a beautiful walk with an atmosphere of comm-unity and fun.

There’s never been a better time for it as this year, we celebrate the 75th Birthday of the NHS. By taking part and whatever you raise will make a huge difference but if you fancy joining us in marking this magnificent milestone, why not challenge yourself to raise £75.

Stay tuned for sign up details coming very soon.
