Donating in memory

When you donate a gift in memory of a loved one, you commemorate their life whilst helping the thousands of patients treated at our hospitals.

Below is a list of FAQs to help you with the next steps.

Can I ask for donations for the hospital in lieu of flowers?

Yes, the hospital has its own charity ‘University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity’ which supports the Royal Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch Hospitals. You can ask for donations to be given to the hospital in general or you can specify an area that means the most to you and your family.

How will the charity know where I want to donate to?

When you send donations to the charity please advise which department or ward you want your donation to benefit. The charity will then ensure that all donations are spent in the area you have chosen.

How can we get the donations to the charity?

Donations can be given online  please note in the ‘reason for donation’ the name of the person you would like to remember.

We also accept cheques, made payable to ‘University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity’. Which can be sent to one of our Freepost addresses:

BH7 7DW

Freepost  RTRZ-HJKG-KTHZ,

Please ask friends and family to include a covering note with their cheque detailing who it is in memory of and the area they would like to support.

Donations can also be made over the phone. Call us on 0300 019 4060 or 0300 019 8449 – our office opening hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm.

What do I need to give to the funeral home?

Many funeral homes will set up an online giving page, so they can take away that stress for you. All you need to do is tell them that you would like your donations to go to ‘University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity’ and which department or ward you would like to donate to, for example: ‘University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity – Cardiac Unit’. The funeral home will do the rest for you.

Will I find out how much has been donated in memory of my loved one?

We will always get in touch to let you know how much has been raised in memory of your loved one. The timing of this will vary depending on when we receive the final donations from the funeral director or online giving. However, if you would like an update at any point, please contact the charity office . The final letter of acknowledgement will be sent to the next of kin notification we receive from either yourself, the funeral home or the online giving page.

Who do we need to contact at the charity?
