“This equipment lessens the time a patient has to spend on the floor, limits further injury and reduces the risk of staff injuries.”
– Claire, Moving and Handling Risk Advisor –
Whilst seeking treatment last year, there were over a thousand reports of patients who fell at the hospital. Falls occur for various reasons and to be recovered from the floor, patients require assistance in a safe and timely manner. To do this, staff need quick and easy access to a piece of lifting equipment known as a FloJac.
Currently there are only two FloJacs at the hospital, so provision of more will ensure quicker responses for those who have fallen and safer lifting methods for our staff.
Costing £6,353 each, a FloJac is an inflatable piece of equipment that can be placed under a patient on the floor, it is then gently inflated layer-by-layer until the patient is at the correct height to be transferred to a hospital bed. The FloJacs simple, but effective operation, minimises further patient injury and stops staff putting themselves at risk of injury.
