Walk for Wards

By Events

A date for the diary and a fun day out for all the family.

Please join us for a family-friendly day out on Saturday 14 October 2023 at Upton Country Park for our flagship fundraising event, Walk for Wards.

The gates will open at 11:30am and you can take in the stunning scenery through the Woodlands and along Poole Bay as you choose to walk the 3km, 5km or 10km before enjoying the locals-makers market, delicious refreshments and live music.

Tickets for adults are £5 and £3 for children. Plus, thanks to our friends at Rapid Relief, your ticket includes a complimentary gourmet burger and drink!

In return, we’re asking our participants to set themselves the target of raising £75 towards their chosen ward. Every pound raised through sponsorship will be helping us to do even more for our patients and fund the extra items that are beyond what the NHS can fund.

Whether you decide to walk in memory of a loved one, for a ward that is close to your heart after undergoing treatment or if you simply want to support your local hospitals, why not do it with a beautiful walk and an atmosphere of community spirit where people across Dorset are coming together for one another.

This is an event for all the family to enjoy as there’s something for everyone and it is suitable for all ages and abilities. Your four-legged friends can get in on the action too so bring everybody along!

We hope you will join us, and we look forward to seeing you for a fun and fabulous day.

We are pleased to announce our gold event sponsor, Hot Radio who will be bringing fun and commentary throughout the day. We are really excited to also have event sponsors Coles Miller (silver) and Think Signs (bronze) for our flagship event this year. We can’t wait!

2023 Twilight Walk

By Events

Over 200 thank you’s to everybody that joined us for our eleventh Twilight Walk

Over 200 people across Dorset came together to walk along Bournemouth promenade for University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity to shine a light on women’s health projects.

You can check out all the action in this 80 second video or view the full gallery of photos here. Stay tuned for the dates for the Twilight Walk 2024 that will be confirmed over the next few months.

Thank you to everybody who chose to walk 5km or 10km at our Twilight Walk to support every person in our local community who may face ovarian cancer. Every penny raised is going towards adopting a new way to treat women with advanced ovarian cancer. This new kit will enable our NHS staff to deliver warm chemotherapy after surgery (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) costing £51,000.

This is a relatively new way to administer chemotherapy to patients with advanced ovarian cancer, but research shows that by administering heated chemotherapy (42oC) directly to the tissues impacted by cancer after surgery can greatly benefit patients and even improve their overall survival.

This is extremely important because the prognosis for advanced ovarian cancer is usually poor. The University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity is raising funds to improve this for every woman in our community.

Charity Fundraiser, Amy Beauchamp said: “The Twilight Walk was a fantastic event with an unforgettable atmosphere. David Lloyd got everybody warmed up and Hot Radio were hosting the event with us. It was emotive seeing people walking alongside one another and shining bright to show their support for one another. Hearing our colleagues from the Women’s Health Team sharing more about the difference the funds raised will make was extremely inspiring.”

“Thank you to everybody that took the time to get involved. On behalf of the charity, we are pleased everybody enjoyed it!”

The Just Giving page for this event is still live for anybody that would like to see how much this event raised.

March for Men

By Events
“Thank you to everybody that joined us for March For Men. Your support will enable us to enhance our services for the treatment of men’s health at University Hospitals Dorset Consultant Urological Surgeons.”

You can view and download the full gallery of images here.

On Saturday 25 March 2023, we saw 231 fantastic supporters join us for March For Men! Whether you chose to walk or run 5k or 10k.

March For Men helps enable the charity to enhance our services for the treatment of men’s health at University Hospitals Dorset. It was a fantastic event with such a fun atmosphere down at Bournemouth Pier Approach with music coming from Hot Radio and everybody getting warmed up for the event.

Consultant Urological Surgeon, Kevin Turner said: ‘With every step our supporters take along the seafront, we can continue to improve health services for every man in our community. March for Men helps us to do so much more for our patients.’

‘We can purchase state of the art equipment to streamline diagnosis and improve treatment. We would not have been able to purchase technology like the blue light camera system to improve bladder cancer treatment without the funds raised from previous March for Men events for example.’

This event was kindly sponsored by Oak Services again this year and supported by Coles Miller.

We hope you will join us for next year’s March for Men event to continue raising funds to enhance our services for the treatment of men’s health.

Elf Dash

By Events
Thank you to everyone who joined us at Branksome, Dene Chine for our sold out Elf Dash 2022.

We will be providing details about this year’s Elf Dash in the coming months. But until then, Thank you to everybody who attended last year. A special thank you to Coles Miller who donated an amazing £1,500 and sponsored the event.

After the dash, the Rapid Relief Team provided a lovely hot meal and refreshments for our dashers. There was also an opportunity to meet Father Christmas who gave us an early Christmas present of toy reindeers that were kindly donated by Haskins Garden Centre, Ferndown.

Throughout the event, Mr Pop Balloons was there to provide some excellent balloon art and those at Oak Services supported us with our transport. It was a fun-filled festive day raising money for the UHD Charity projects, which includes the purchase of Christmas presents for patients who will be spending the season in hospital.

Thank you to everyone that attended and was involved to make Elf Dash 2022 so dashing!
