March for Men

By Events
“Thank you to everybody that joined us for March For Men. Your support will enable us to enhance our services for the treatment of men’s health at University Hospitals Dorset Consultant Urological Surgeons.”

On Saturday 25 March 2023, we saw 231 fantastic supporters join us for March For Men! Whether you chose to walk or run 5k or 10k.

March For Men helps enable the charity to enhance our services for the treatment of men’s health at University Hospitals Dorset. It was a fantastic event with such a fun atmosphere down at Bournemouth Pier Approach with music coming from Hot Radio and everybody getting warmed up for the event.

Consultant Urological Surgeon, Kevin Turner said: ‘With every step our supporters take along the seafront, we can continue to improve health services for every man in our community. March for Men helps us to do so much more for our patients.’

‘We can purchase state of the art equipment to streamline diagnosis and improve treatment. We would not have been able to purchase technology like the blue light camera system to improve bladder cancer treatment without the funds raised from previous March for Men events for example.’

This event was kindly sponsored by Oak Services again this year and supported by Coles Miller.

Stay tuned over the next 6 weeks to find out how much we raised and follow us on FacebookInstagram and Twitter to see the photos and videos taken on the day for March for Men 2023.

Elf Dash

By Events
Thank you to everyone who joined us at Branksome, Dene Chine for our sold out Elf Dash 2022.

A special thank you to Coles Miller who donated an amazing £1,500 and sponsored the event.

After the dash, the Rapid Relief Team provided a lovely hot meal and refreshments for our dashers. There was also an opportunity to meet Father Christmas who gave us an early Christmas present of toy reindeers that were kindly donated by Haskins Garden Centre, Ferndown.

Throughout the event, Mr Pop Balloons was there to provide some excellent balloon art and those at Oak Services supported us with our transport. It was a fun-filled festive day raising money for the UHD Charity projects, which includes the purchase of Christmas presents for patients who will be spending the season in hospital.

Thank you to everyone that attended and was involved to make Elf Dash 2022 so dashing!

Camino Way Charity Trek

By Challenges
October 2023
100km Charity Trek through rural and coastal northern Spain.

The Camino Portugues Coastal from Vigo to Santiago last 100km, is the last stretch of the Camino Portugues Coastal. This coastal route starts in the dynamic seaside town of Vigo, in the heart of the Rías Baixas, famous for its Albariño white wine and delicious shellfish. The weather along the route can be mildly rainy during the year but it clears up in the summer months and the climate is comparable to the Pacific North West region of North America.

There are many things to see on this route that should appeal to those interested in a more simplistic life, filled with history, great food, wine, and beaches. In Vigo, stroll along the seafront enjoying views of the magnificent Cíes Islands. The fishing city of Vigo boasts many fine buildings of Romanesque architecture with a host of museums that will keep any history buff entertained. In addition, a visit to the historic town square (Casco Vello) is advised as is taking some time to relax on one of the city’s many beaches.

The Camino Portugues Coastal last 100km joins the classic Camino Portugues Central in the town of Redondela where you will start meeting fellow pilgrims. You will continue your journey passing many small villages and towns such as Pontesampaio, wonderful Pontevedra, the spa town of Caldas de Reis and Padrón, home of the famous peppers.

By Events
Stay tuned to hear more about our annual Walk for Wards event.

In 2022, Walk for Wards was cancelled but stay tuned for 2023 details

Following the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, we were in an official period of mourning and it would not have been right to go ahead with this event. As an NHS Trust, we postponed non-medical events during that time however, please stay tuned for information coming soon about our Walk for Wards event.

This has become our flagship annual fundraising event and it was great to see people taking part in Walk for Wards 2022 ‘virtually’.

Some of you chose a route of your own and some of you were guided by our planned routes around Upton Country Park, taking in the stunning scenery through woodlands and along Poole bay.

Whether you walked for loved one undergoing treatment, have a personal experience of receiving care at our hospitals, or wanted to show  your support for our hospital staff who go over and above to deliver exceptional care – thank you.

Watch the space – more information for 2023 will be coming soon.
