Light Up Our Tree, Remember a loved on this Christmas

Light Up Our Tree is your opportunity to remember cherished family members or friends who are sadly not with us today.

Over the festive period, we know how important it is to remember those we have lost, whether or not a loved one was cared for at one of our hospitals.

The names of your loved ones will be written on a candle decoration and displayed at either the Royal Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole Hospitals over the Christmas period.

You can make your donation and candle dedication by either completing and returning the form below or calling our charity office on:

Camino Way Charity Trek

By Challenges
22 – 29 April 2023
100km Charity Trek through rural and coastal northern Spain.

The Camino Portugues Coastal from Vigo to Santiago last 100km, is the last stretch of the Camino Portugues Coastal. This coastal route starts in the dynamic seaside town of Vigo, in the heart of the Rías Baixas, famous for its Albariño white wine and delicious shellfish. The weather along the route can be mildly rainy during the year but it clears up in the summer months and the climate is comparable to the Pacific North West region of North America.

There are many things to see on this route that should appeal to those interested in a more simplistic life, filled with history, great food, wine, and beaches. In Vigo, stroll along the seafront enjoying views of the magnificent Cíes Islands. The fishing city of Vigo boasts many fine buildings of Romanesque architecture with a host of museums that will keep any history buff entertained. In addition, a visit to the historic town square (Casco Vello) is advised as is taking some time to relax on one of the city’s many beaches.

The Camino Portugues Coastal last 100km joins the classic Camino Portugues Central in the town of Redondela where you will start meeting fellow pilgrims. You will continue your journey passing many small villages and towns such as Pontesampaio, wonderful Pontevedra, the spa town of Caldas de Reis and Padrón, home of the famous peppers.

This self-guided trek is rated ‘medium’ difficulty.

Walk for Wards

By Events
Walk for Wards has been cancelled due to the sad death of the Queen.

Following the sad news of the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, we are now in an official period of mourning. As an NHS trust, we are following protocol and postponing non-medical events during this time, this includes fundraising events.

Whilst we have endeavoured to look at alternative dates, this has not been possible.

As our flagship annual fundraising event, this may be disappointing news for some of you, however, we trust that you understand in these difficult circumstances. We are now calling on you to take part in Walk for Wards 2022 ‘virtually’. You can complete your chosen walk at a time and place to suit you. You may even wish to follow our planned routes around Upton Country Park, taking in the stunning scenery through woodlands and along Poole bay.

All registrants will be sent a copy of the routes, event bib and finishers medal, by post. We’d love to see your photos of your virtual Walk for Wards, so please do send them to or tag us on social media @UHDCharity.

Walk for Wards remains your opportunity to do something amazing for a ward or department close to your heart. Whether you have a loved one undergoing treatment, a personal experience of receiving care at our hospitals, or want to show support for our NHS heroes who’ve gone over and above to deliver exceptional care – what better way to say thank you and show your love for our hospitals.

We thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you at a UHD Charity event soon.

Last year, Walk for Wards marked our first ‘in person’ event as University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity. This year, we’ll be recreating the event’s festival feel with live music, family-friendly entertainment and stalls! Walk for Wards 2022 is not to be missed!

In 2021 250 members of our communities came together to celebrate our local NHS at Walk for Wards, raising over £12,700! Help us make this year even more of a success by gathering together family, friends, or colleagues to walk 3km, 5km or 10km through the beautiful Upton House Country Park whilst raising funds for your hospitals. You can even bring your dogs along for this truly family friendly day out!

Whether you’d like to experience the great outdoors with a short stroll or embark on a long walk, Walk for Wards guarantees a fun filled day making wonderful memories, all in aid of supporting the Royal Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch hospitals.

March for Men

By Events
Thank you so much to everyone who joined us at Bournemouth Pier Approach on Sunday 13 March 2022 for March for Men!

March for Men raised over £8,000 for men’s health services at University Hospitals Dorset.

Each year our hospitals treat thousands of men in our community for a whole range of health conditions including prostate, bladder, or testicular cancer. March for Men is an important opportunity to raise awareness for the issues affecting men’s health.

“We are very grateful for the charitable donations we have received through March for Men over the years. Their support has enabled us to introduce a range of new procedures and techniques which have improved the diagnostic accuracy and treatment efficacy of common conditions affecting men’s health. March for Men has recently helped us purchase the mini-PCL (percutaneous nephrolithotomy) surgical kit which allows us to treat larger kidney stones using a smaller incision, and therefore reduces the risks associated with this complex procedure. Thanks to everyone who took part or donated, with this year’s funds we are planning to purchase a new laser (Leonardo Mini Dual) which allows us to treat recurring bladder cancer in an outpatient setting under local anaesthetic, avoiding the need for an over-night stay.” – Tommy Johnston, Co-lead of the Urology department at University Hospitals Dorset

March for Men was kindly sponsored by Oak Services who helped the day run smoothly with transport support.
